We are a ‘Bring Your Own Device’ school

We encourage you to purchase a device through the school’s BYOD purchase portal below.

Devices purchased through this portal come with next-day on-site support for warranty repairs, and all devices come with a 3-year warranty. Flexible payment options are also available.

Selecting the right device

Selecting the right device for is a balance between cost, functionality, weight, and performance. Decide on which considerations are most important to you and then look for key features to best suit your needs.

CONSIDERATIONSFEATURES TO LOOK FOR
PERFORMANCE
Students who are studying technical (coding, AutoCAD, Inventor) or creative subjects (video editing, illustration) will want a device with high performance levels.
Power and speed - 16GB or RAM and i5 core processor or higher. Older devices will have a shorter battery life
FUNCTIONALITY
Technology rich tasks will require students to use multiple inputs such as audio recordings, videoing and data logging.
Inbuilt microphone, front facing in-built camera, USB 3.0 & USB-C, HDMI
PORTABILITY
Consider the portability of the device if students use public transport or walk long distances to attend school
Aim for a lower weight device (around 1.6kg)
DURABILITY
Accidents happen, protect this investment in your child's education
Purchase extended warrantee, accidental damage protection, solid state drives, and a protective cover or case
Laptop and ICT Program

Existing devices

If using an existing device, students will need to connect to the Para Hills High School Wi-Fi network on their first day and follow the prompts on the BYOD portal (accessible from the school website) to download appropriate resources, settings and certificates. The school’s ICT Department will be able to assist with minor troubleshooting, however parents/caregivers will need to manage the device’s warranties, insurances and repairs.

Note, Tablets, Chromebooks, and Android devices are not supported by our BYOD program.

Day loan of school devices

These devices are available to borrow from the Resource Centre whilst a student’s laptop is being serviced or is unavailable. Laptops can be borrowed in the same way books are borrowed and will need to be returned at the end of the day to be charged overnight.
Note: In the case of loss or damage as a result of negligence, abuse or malicious acts, parents/caregivers are responsible for meeting the cost of repairs or full replacement of all categories of devices on loan.
